Janet H. Cooley Receives Albert E. Rosica, Jr. Memorial Award

Fort Lauderdale, FL, February 7, 2014: The American College of Apothecaries presented the 2013-14 Albert E. Rosica, Jr. Memorial Award to Janet H. Cooley, of Tucson, Arizona, at the College’s 2014 Annual Educational Conference at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The presentation was made during the Presidents Banquet Friday evening, February 7th. This award, established in memory of Albert E. Rosica, Jr., a Past President of the ACA, is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to pharmacy education.

Dr. Cooley joined the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy faculty as an Assistant Professor and the Director of Experiential Education in 2011. Before that she was a practicing pharmacist in the community at both a compounding pharmacy and at a local community hospital.

As a practicing pharmacist, Janet became a preceptor and hosted quality improvement and APPE students as well as pharmacy-technician trainees. She also became a board-certified ambulatory care pharmacist.

Realizing that her passion was education, Janet made the leap into academia and proudly returned to her alma mater. She has taken on numerous projects in her current role. These include; teaching the “Preparation for Rotations” course, introducing a “Mock Interview Day” for the students, hosting the annual Career Day, coordinating the annual Preceptor/Residency Showcase, managing the APPE rotation schedule, starting an academic rotation in the Experiential Education office and mentoring 8 student research projects.

Janet also coordinates educational opportunities for preceptors and alumni, continues to recruit and orient preceptors, and participates in interprofessional projects across campus. She also does volunteer work at the Skin Cancer Institute.
