The George Malmberg Scholarship for Compounding Excellence is awarded by the American College of Apothecaries Research and Education Foundation to an individual with a demonstrated interest in pharmaceutical compounding and independent pharmacy, who shows leadership qualities, extra-curricular activities, and a high level of academic success.

George Malmberg (1949-2013) was an icon in the compounding pharmacy profession, a friend and beloved mentor to many who lead and will lead the industry. He was a passionate advocate for the rights of prescribers and pharmacists to develop customized medicines for people and animals. He was generous with his time, money and talent, frequently leading efforts to defend the legal rights of compounding pharmacists and patients who need access to personalized medications. This scholarship was established in his memory by his wife, Lucy Malmberg, RPh, FACA, FACVP, as a way to continue George’s commitment to the future of compounding pharmacy.

Each recipient of the George Malmberg Scholarship for Compounding Excellence will receive a complimentary registration to one Compounding Training Course (excluding the Comprehensive Sterile), of their choice, held at the ACA National Training Headquarters. Approved travel and lodging will be provided to attend the course.

Note: Registration for the compounding course must be made within six (6) months. The award is non-transferable and is not redeemable for cash. Receipient must attend the entire course and participate fully in the learning activity.

How Do I Apply?

Eligibility: Student Pharmacists who are ACA or ACVP members AND ACA or ACVP Members who are recent graduates (received PharmD in prior 36 months).

The ACA Research & Education Foundation’s George Malmberg Student Scholarship for Compounding Excellence will be awarded on the following:

• Leadership Qualities: Potential candidates will be evaluated by the ACA Research & Education Foundation Scholarship Committee on the basis of leadership qualities and accomplishments with a demonstrated interest in an independent compounding pharmacy, as well as involvement in extracurricular activities. These qualities will be measured by the required supporting documents.
• Academic Achievement: Scholastic success is a necessary condition for consideration and will be measured using college transcripts.
• Demonstrated Interest: Scholarships are awarded to students based on career goals and objectives and established interest in independent compounding pharmacy as a career option.

All applicants must:

1. Fill out the Scholarship Application below. Incomplete applications may be summarily disqualified from consideration.
2. Be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. school or college of pharmacy on a full-time basis during the term that the scholarship is awarded or have received a PharmD within the past 36 months.
3. Be a current ACA or ACVP member. Participation in ACA and/or ACVP activities and/or leadership roles is not required, but will be favorably considered.
4. Submit a letter from a faculty member or college advisor familiar with the your qualifications OR a letter from a pharmacy owner or manager, preferably an ACA or ACVP Fellow or Member.
5. Personal Statement of up to 500 words outlining your academic and professional accomplishments and goals for the future. This statement should also detail your demonstrated interest in pharmaceutical compounding and how your selection to receive this scholarship will allow you to achieve your career goals. Note: Applicants may only receive this scholarship one time. Family members of ACA Research & Education Foundation Officers or ACA/ACVP Officers are not eligible to participate in the program.
